The American Petroleum Institute has filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency’s biodiesel mandate, which requires raising the volume of biodiesel blended into diesel fuel by nearly 30 percent starting next year. API called the EPA mandate to blend 1.28 billion gallons of biodiesel into diesel fuels starting in January “unworkable.” API said the mandate could raise the costs of making diesel fuel and should be scaled back. In September EPA boosted the volume of biodiesel to be blended with diesel to 1.28 billion gallons in 2013 from 1 billion gallons.
