The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA) has begun mailing out registration forms for the 2015-2016 HAZMAT registration period.

The annual registration fee is $275 for small businesses and $2,600 for large businesses. Fuel haulers with expiring HAZMAT registration certificates must register and pay the fee by July 1, 2015.

Federal regulations require all interstate and intrastate fuel haulers in placarded vehicles to register and pay an annual HAZMAT fee. Registration is necessary to obtain federal operating authority for the transportation of hazardous materials. PHMSA allows one, two and three-year registrations.

Online registration is available. Electronic registration allows registrants to download their operating certificate immediately.
