Gilbarco and PayPal Bring Mobile Payments to the Pump

Gilbarco Veeder-Root and PayPal have teamed up to make PayPal an accepted payment method at tens of thousands of fueling stations around the U.S. Gilbarco said the move will allow retailers to connect more effectively with customers and simplify the way people pay for fuel and purchase in-store items. Through the partnership, Gilbarco gains access to a new user base--PayPal’s 125 million global users and the 55 million Americans who use a PayPal account right now, while also giving merchants using Gilbarco's equipment the ability to sell additional items through PayPal Wallet.

Truckstop Merchandise Purchases Up 6% Vs. 2011

The total merchandise purchases per week per travel plaza and truckstop were up 6% for all of 2012 compared to 2011 according to the 4th Quarter 2012 McLane-NATSO Foundation Index. Total travel plaza and truckstop convenience purchases from McLane averaged $16,545 per week during 2012 versus $15,616 in 2011.

The total merchandise purchases per week per travel plaza and truckstop were up 6% versus 2011 (excluding cigarettes) according to the 3rd Quarter 2012 McLane-NATSO Foundation Index. Cigarette purchases per week per travel plaza and truckstop were up 5% in the first nine months of 2012.

Less than one year remains before most businesses will be required to offer health benefits to their workers as part of President Obama's healthcare law, and the Department of Treasury and IRS have moved forward on implementing the law's employer mandate provision, publishing a 144-page proposed regulation that outlines employers' responsibilities and coverage requirements.
