Diesel Exhaust Fluid: What's Coming and How You Can Prepare

The following presentations were given on Jan. 26, 2009 during a NATSO U session at The NATSO Show 2009 in Nashville, Tenn.

David Siler, Director of Marketing, Detroit Diesel

David Siler is Marketing Director for Detroit Diesel Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Trucks. Daimler, Redford, Mich., is a North American manufacturer of commercial vehicles. Detroit Diesel engines are available in Freightliner, Western Star, Custom Chassis, and Thomas Built Buses ranging from 190 HP to 560 HP. An industry veteran, David has worked in the Truck and Engine OEM business for more than 20 years, holding sales and marketing positions at Detroit Diesel, Freightliner Trucks, and Navistar. Under his leadership and direction, Detroit Diesel successfully launched the all new DD15 and DD13 engines and has established itself as a leader in SCR emissions control technology in North America.

Jim Spooner, Vice President and General Manager, Colonial Chemical

Colonial Chemical is one of the leading authorities and suppliers of diesel exhaust fluid in the US. Jim Spooner is one of the founders of the North American SCR Stakeholders Group and has been involved in developing the recently adopted quality certification standards and licensing program which will be supervised by the American Petroleum Institute based on international ISO specifications.  

John Lounsbury, Director of Marketing, Terra Environmental Technologies

Mr. Lounbsury is the Director of Marketing for Terra Environmental Technologies Inc. (TET), Sioux City, Iowa. TET is a Terra Industries Company, which provides a wide range of nitrogen-based reagents and services to companies in meeting their clean air emissiosn objectives. The environmental business expanded in 2007 to service the needs of the NOrth American mobile market with the introduction of TerraCair™, a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). Mr. Lounsbury consulted on the business development strategy for TerraCair™ in conunction with regualtory agencies, automotive OEMs and supply chain partners.Prior to joining Terra in 2008, Mr. Lounsbury owned his own marketing consulting firm and has extensive management experience with Nestle and Unilever in both the United States and Canada.Mr. Lounsbury has an Honors Business and Commerce Degree. 

Rolf Isberg, Vice President, Yara Industrial North America

Operating in 50 countries worldwide, Yara International is the world’s leading supplier of mineral fertilizers with particular strength in nitrogen-based products and applications for industrial clients. Yara has a strong position in industrial markets in Europe and is the main manufacturer of AdBlue, Europe’s version of Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
